UK Fulbright Summer Institutes
The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers special Summer Institutes for US citizens to come to the UK. These summer programmes provide the opportunity for US undergraduates (aged over 18), with at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete, to come to the UK on a three, four, five or six week academic and cultural summer programme. Participants in these programmes will get the opportunity to experience an exciting academic programme at a highly regarded UK University, explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK and develop their academic ability by improving presentation, research and communication skills.
The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers nine different summer programs. Participants in these programmes can expect an exciting academic programme at a highly regarded UK University, the chance to actively explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK, and to develop their academic ability by improving presentation, research and communication skills.
Applicant Requirements The Fulbright Commission is unable to immediately confirm receipt of applications. During the application process, references written for general purposes and not specifically for a Fulbright Summer Programme or those written by family members or friends will not be accepted. Successful applicants will be invited for telephone interviews facilitated by the Fulbright Commission on the date(s) specified on its website (www.fulbright.org.uk). Interviews will be held on the indicated date(s) only and may not be rescheduled. Fulbright Summer Programme selection committees will be comprised of representatives from relevant professional fields, senior academics, senior US Embassy and/or Consulate representatives, Fulbright alumni and Fulbright Commission staff. The Fulbright Commission does not give feedback and cannot comment on individual applications or give reasons why a candidate is or is not successful. Visa Requirements The use of the grant is contingent upon the availability of transportation and the candidate’s ability to procure a passport and legally enter the UK. Special Programme participants attending one of the above named Summer Institutes are expected to travel to the United Kingdom under the Student Visitor immigration route. Participants will be given information on this by the Commission after selection.
The Summer Institutes will cover the majority of participant costs. This includes round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the host university/institution, accommodation and meals and in some cases a small daily allowance.
